The jury is still out on climate change and the ravaging effects it will have on our world if we do not act immediately to reduce our carbon (CO2) emissions. For every scientist advocating the reduction of greenhouse gasses for the salvation of our planet, there are equal numbers of scientists that can disprove the effects altogether. The effects of climate change are far from certain. Therefore, Cap and Trade, as a solution for climate change, is nothing more than a politically contrived solution to a politically inflamed problem with no scientific basis. Cap and Trade will be a nightmare to implement, it is fraught with complications, it invites gamesmanship, manipulation and fraud, and it has not worked over years of effort where implemented in the European Union. More importantly, it will not resolve climate change because, not only are the proposed reductions unachievable, the system is not global in nature (China is the largest CO2 emitter, followed closely by India). Despite the best efforts of the "Energizer Bunny", there is no near-term solution to replacing carbon-based fuels with a reliable and affordable alternative. The caps merely serve to increase the cost of energy, not for the world, mind you, but only in the U.S. where this "energy tax" would be levied. Increased energy costs means an increase in the cost of U.S. goods and services, which in turn makes our country less competitive in the global market, damages our already weak economy, impairs our quality of life, and compromises our national security. If I understand the numbers correctly, Obama promises to raise $650 billion in revenues by selling "carbon permits" (an industry energy tax). Only $150 billion of that pot of money will go to alternative energy production. The rest goes to pay for income redistribution in the form of income tax “cuts” for people that don’t even pay income taxes. This is simply a massive transfer of wealth and has nothing to do with climate but has everything to do with promoting your socialist agenda for America. While the effects of climate change are far from certain, if you insist on passage of this needless, expensive legislation, the guaranteed change in the political climate among the American people will most assuredly, wreak havoc on your political world. Stop the rape-and-pillage! |
