A system of nationalized health care is highly controversial legislation and many people of this country are scared, including me, that under a proposed government run plan, we will no longer be able to receive the quality care we have at the present time. It is a fact that the high quality of health care available in the United States compares to no other country. Many are expressing the argument that 47 million people in this country are without health care. Not one single person in the United States whether they are illegal aliens, legal aliens, naturalized citizens or natural born citizens is refused health care. Not one. Not everyone has health insurance - true, yet many studies have revealed that over half that do not have health insurance have elected not to carry health insurance for whatever reason and that is up to them...it is called freedom of choice...a God-given right and unique American ideal. That being said, no one is refused health care. No one. So, the claim that 47 million are without health care is an obvious lie. They may not have health insurance but they most assuredly have health care. Neither you, nor the federal government have the constitutional authority to force people to carry health insurance - period. I'll speak candidly - Any move by you or the Congress to impose a health insurance mandate and remove Americans God-given right of freedom of choice is nothing more than this administrations further attempt to move this country into socialism. I am in complete opposition to any "progressive" mandates but do offer my own recommendations: There is no denying medical costs are high. If you truly want to reform health care then increase competition in the private sector. Allow states to eliminate burdensome regulations so insurance companies can compete equally across state lines. Leveling the playing field for doctors, insurers, and consumers will result in healthy competition that drives down costs and increases favorable outcomes. Insisting health care services be more transparent and open through standardized insurance claims forms and equal tax breaks for individuals and companies will control costs by helping consumers and businesses compare "apples to apples" across the health care spectrum. Place the responsibility for obtaining health insurance where it belongs, on the individual. This will encourage people to make healthy lifestyle choices. Infusing personal responsibility into health care reform allows us all to maintain our cherished freedom to live our lives without further government intrusion. My recommendations for health care reform are not those of President Obama. Then again, he's a socialist and I am not. I and millions of other Americans are watching you and the Congress very closely. How you approach health care reform and how you decide to fund these reforms will determine your viability during your next re-election cycle. Those who fund your campaign won't be at the ballot box - I will be. |
